~ Pro Hart Prize for Hanging Art
JUDGE JOHN FIRTH-SMITH SAID: “After looking at the variety of all the work over and over, I was drawn repeatedly to Nancy Hunt’s “Night Romp”. A dynamic and energetic work, its fleeting images of horses had a spontaneity that was not overworked, but boldly executed with a freshness of colour.” ~ Print Storm Prize for Photography JUDGE MERVYN BISHOP SAID: “Mal Carnegie’s compelling image of a dry cracked lake bed covered with dead carp is a dramatic, technically excellent composition conveying a relevant and powerful message.” ~ Art Unlimited Ceramics Prize JUDGE KAYE RICE SAID: “Geoff Thomas’s work is a finely-tuned enjoyment of the ceramic tradition. What drew me to the large wood-fired jar was the strong form and yet gentle glow of the ash residue on the surface of the clay. It emanated a warmth of character, along with technical skill.” ~ Fairview ArtSpace Prize JUDGE HELEN HARWOOD SAID: “Prue Cullen’s work impressed me with its raw texture, patterning and connection to the land. Prue has captured a sense of an ancient vessel in her work. The patterning is a reminder of our indigenous connections, and the form resonates with work from an even older period. The embellishment of the pods with gold additions adds a modern twist and a point of interest. The three works nestled together form a warm and attractive grouping and seem to tell a story of the potter and her journey to peace and contentment.” |
