Dunedoo’s Art Unlimited - one of New South Wales’ premier showcases of regional art – will now span 10 days and become a fully-fledged annual festival.
The exhibition will run from Friday 20 May to Sunday 29 May, including two weekends, to allow a longer period for entries to be on show for visitors and provide more exposure for artists who wish to sell their works.
Art Unlimited, now in its eighth year, attracts more than 400 entries from artists, photographers and ceramicists from around Australia. It offers prize money in excess of $11,000, including the $3000 Pro Hart Prize for Hanging Art, donated by Raylee Hart, widow of the iconic outback artist. There are also $3000 cash prizes for photography and ceramics, as well as a $500 prize for an indigenous artist, provided by Orana Arts, and a $500 prize donated by Mudgee’s Fairview ArtSpace. A number of other prizes are on offer, including a People’s Choice Prize of $500.
One of the new initiatives will be a weekend art workshop to be conducted by international artist/instructor Georgia Mansur. Georgia is a trained and certified Golden International Artist Educator and leads art workshops all over the world. She is recognised as an inspirational leader in her field and regularly presents at conventions and conferences, both in Australia and overseas. Her mixed media workshop, titled “Seductive Surfaces – Painting with Passion” will appeal to artists with all levels of skill, from beginners to professional artists.
Art Unlimited is staged in the hall at Dunedoo Central School where an extended program for schools is being developed, building on the successful Art for Youth day of introductory student workshops. The Art Unlimited exhibition will provide an inspirational background.
Demonstrations by artists, potters and other artisans will take place over both weekends of the Art Unlimited exhibition.
The opening night and announcement of prize winners will take place on Friday 20 May. This event is the highlight of the year in Dunedoo, with a capacity crowd of 300 attending. Another function will be held on the second weekend which will allow more people to enjoy the exhibition in a social situation.
