Approximately 400 artists, photographers and ceramicists from around Australia have entered Art Unlimited, Dunedoo’s annual competition which opens next Friday 22 May.
Now in its seventh year, Art Unlimited has become established as one of regional Australia’s most well-respected arts events. Presented by Dunedoo Lions Club, the competition offers $11,000 worth of prizes and attracts hundreds of visitors from a wide area.
Each category carries first place prize money of $3000. The Hanging Art Prize is provided by the Pro Hart family in honour of the legendary Australian artist, and Mudgee print and design company, Print Storm, provides the Photography Prize. The Ceramics Prize is provided by Art Unlimited.
A People’s Choice Prize of $500 is also awarded, and Fairview ArtSpace, offers a $500 cash prize and the opportunity for the winner to hold an exhibition at the stylish Mudgee gallery.
The Janace Holmes Family Memorial Award of $250 and a trophy is awarded to a work chosen by the family of the late Janace Holmes who was closely involved with the original Dunedoo Arts and Crafts Show, the predecessor of Art Unlimited. Two additional prizes on offer are the Orana Arts Indigenous Artist Prize of $500 and ABC Western Plains Prize of $250 worth of merchandise from ABC Shops.
The panel of judges includes Director of Orange Regional Gallery, Lisa Loader, internationally represented photographer Bob Hughes, and accomplished ceramicist, Nerrida Barber.
Judging will take place on Friday 22 May and winners will be announced that evening at a cocktail reception. The event will be officially opened by Andrew Dunkley of ABC Western Plains.
Fine wines will be provided by Mudgee’s Robert Stein Winery and Vineyard and the catering done by hospitality students of Dunedoo Central School. The Lucky Door Prize will be a case of Robert Stein wines.
Tickets for the opening night reception are $30 and can be booked by phoning Norma Gallagher on 0437 751180. Bookings are essential.
The exhibition will be open from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, 23 and 24 May, at Dunedoo Central School Hall. Entry to the weekend exhibition is $5. Lunches, morning and afternoon teas will be available, provided by Dunedoo Central School P&C.
